Ivanka Trump: Mary Trump says cousin 'does not do anything' to 'moderate influence' on father Donald Trump

First daughter and White House senior adviser Ivanka Trump is recently coming under fire for a few issues this week. Among those critics is none other than her cousin, Mary Trump, who criticized her influence in the White House in a recent interview.

Speaking to the Washington Post via Business Insider, Mary Trump was asked by White House reporter Ashley Parker about her cousin Ivanka being the person who “moderates influence” on her father, Donald Trump. Mary, who is Trump’s niece, said that Ivanka “disproves that on an almost daily basis,”

“She doesn’t do anything. She spouts bromides on social media, but either she tries to have an impact and fails, or just isn’t interested in having an impact,” said Mary, who is the daughter of Donald Trump’s older brother Fred Trump Jr. who died from complications of alcohol abuse in 1981. “I can’t think of one thing she’s done to show that she’s moderate or a moderating influence,” added Ms. Trump.

This notion of Ivanka’s supposed counterbalancing of her father goes back to 2017. Reports and stories from sources suggested that the first daughter has sometimes broken away from her father’s decisions but has only done so behind the scenes. Ivanka has rarely gone against her father’s opinions and decisions in public. Being one of the high-level White House staff members, Ivanka has taken charge of several issues alongside her husband and fellow White House senior adviser Jared Kushner. However, the scope of her role has earned criticism from many as Ivanka does not have any political experience.

Aside from her cousin Mary Trump, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo also blasted the first daughter as well as Donald Trump on Wednesday for sharing photos on social media supposedly promoting Goya foods. Many critics have seen this as a violation of government ethics, including the former director of the Office of Government Ethics Walter Shaub.

Their sudden promotion of the brand follows the news that the Goya Foods CEO voiced his support for Trump, leading many consumers to boycott the brand.

“His daughter, Ivanka, top White House adviser, are you kidding me? Marketing for a brand that calls for a boycott after Goya’s CEO heaped praise on Trump last week. On your dime, in the middle of a pandemic, they’re selling beans. Are you kidding me?” said Cuomo.
