Fans of The CW drama “Jane The Virgin” have probably been in denial considering the volume of questions asking about the future of the series past its confirmed upcoming fifth season. The show was renewed by the broadcasting network as soon as the fourth season ended in April but fans are still unsure why the series has to end so soon.
“Jane the Virgin” season 5 becoming the final season for the show was teased prior to season 5's renewal confirmation when Gina Rodriguez, at a South by Southwest (SXSW) convention panel last March, mentioned that she was excited to get back into the director's seat for a couple of episodes in the show's final season. Unfortunately for fans who were hoping that Rodriguez may have misspoken during the SXSW panel, The CW confirmed that “Jane The Virgin” season 5 will be the show's last season.
The show's own creator, Jennie Snyder Urman, in an interview with the New York Times, mentions that the original plan for “Jane the Virgin” was to run with material that would only last for four seasons. The show's popularity, as well as the little twists and turns that the story's progression took over the years, allowed the series to have a second lease on life, which has lead to “Jane The Virgin” season 5.
Fans of the show who are worried about its future don't have to fret since The CW has already confirmed the show will continue, just that they have yet to release information on when “Jane The Virgin” season 5 will air its premiere episode.
The series has had a consistent October broadcast for its premiere episodes for the past four seasons, but with the usual broadcast period only two months away, fans may have to wait a little longer for an official announcement on when “Jane The Virgin” season 5 will air.
