Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell exit startled royal fans because they didn’t expect that they would be quitting this soon.
However, body language expert Judi James said that there were already some indications that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex won’t be keeping their royal roles.
While speaking with Express, James talked about Prince Harry’s strained relationship with the press. She said that the first storm clouds began to gather even before he tied the knot with Markle.
Prince Harry released a statement urging the press to stop writing stories about his then-girlfriend, and he also accused the media of being racist. The Duke of Sussex also demanded that the press leave Markle alone.
“He sounded angry and over-protective in his written statement and perhaps a little naïve given that Meghan was a well-known TV star used to being in the spotlight and clearly a magnet for press interest,” James said.
Meanwhile, Markle also approached her new life as a royal very differently from how Kate Middleton handled hers. When she first joined the royal family, the “Suits” alum appeared to be full of life, energy, and enthusiasm. This suggested that she didn’t understand the potential consequences of being a royal.
“William and Kate have been the best blueprint for staying in the spotlight but avoiding the kind of rabid interest that surrounded Princess Diana. They attract attention and praise but without fueling obsessive interest, single-handedly doing away with the soap opera effect that had plagued the previous generation of royals with their very public marriage splits and scandals,” James explained.
Meanwhile, American television producer Harvey Levin also said that Prince Harry knew early on that royal life wasn’t working out for him and his wife. Six months before the announcement, Prince Harry was already contemplating on leaving The Firm. And he would’ve pushed through with it with or without Markle.
“And Harry likes having fun. Harry likes being on his own. Harry's not necessarily into glamour. And when you look at that backdrop, they were ready for something like this,” Levin told Fox News.
