‘Stranger Things’ season 2 main actor, David Harbour, teased his character Chief Jim Hopper’s fate during a new interview. He revealed that Hopper’s life will be much different in the new season. Shannon Purser, who played the cult favorite character Barb in season 1, also hinted the season 2 will be a “crazy ride” and that it would feature “justice for Barb.”
According to Gamespot, Harbour revealed that his character Chief Jim Hopper will have a different journey in the highly anticipated second season of the science-fiction and horror web television series airing on Netflix.
The 42-year old American actor explained, "Hop starts Season 2 in a completely different place than Season 1… He saved Will and has found a renewed interest in life. So his arc for Season 2 in my mind becomes more about butting up against the places where his hero fantasy can't take him. The places where that hero complex may force him to make the wrong decisions. It's a satisfying, completely different journey in Season 2."
Hopper was first introduced into the series as a haggard and alcoholic cop, who didn’t seem to care much about his life. It was then revealed that he was in a continued grief-stricken state over the death of his young daughter, Sarah.
His life began to take an unexpected turn when distressed mother, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), enlisted his help to find her missing son, Will (Noah Schnapp). Their hunt for Will later landed them in the dark, menacing, and mysterious alternate world called the Upside Down. Hopper and Joyce eventually found Will, barely alive, and managed to rescue him and bring him back to the real world.
Harbour revealed that he just finished filming the first episode of season 2. He said, "I've seen episode 1 and have seen a lot of the shooting at the monitor and I can honestly say that I am so excited for you all to see this season… It's so fun and dark and complex. The characters all get to deepen and develop and we get to take on even greater demons (inner and outer)."
He continued, “Episodes 4 and 5 are pretty epic. Last year I felt they were the slowest of the season, but in this season, [episodes] 4 and 5 are incredible… The story moves so fast in the middle and the tension is so high. They're killer, but I haven't even seen 8 and 9 yet, and they'll likely be even better."
The upcoming season is set to feature the return of the show’s core characters including Ryder’s Joyce, Schnapp’s Will, Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven, Finn Wolfhard’s Mike, Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin, Natalia Dyer’s Nancy, Charlie Heaton’s Jonathan, and Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas. It will also feature new characters including Sean Astin’s Bob Newby, Paul Reiser’s Owens, Dacre Montgomery’s Billy, and Sadie Sink’s Max.
Barb, one of the characters that earned a massive cult following back in season 1 will obviously not be returning for a second run, considering that she has been killed off in the previous season. However, actress Shannon Purser shared her thoughts on the upcoming season including a promise that Barb’s death will be significant for the events that are about to unfold.
According to Teen Vogue, Purser teased that there will be “justice for Barb” in season 2. She also hinted, "If we thought season one was intense, season 2 [will be] even more…. It’s gonna be a crazy ride from start to finish."
‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is expected to premiere on Netflix on October 31, 2017.
