‘Supernatural’ season 12 is officially hitting the small screen sometime in fall 2016. It is set to bring in major changes as well as new showrunners.

According to Bustle, the incoming season will bring in big changes for one of television’s longest-running television shows. For one, the series has been moved to air on Thursday nights from its usual Wednesday night time slot. A spin-off may also be a possibility since The CW is no stranger to such on its networks.

The CW announced season’s 12 renewal back in March 2016. According to Hollywood Hills, ‘Supernatural’ joins a list of other television series under the network including ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Reign’, ‘The 100’, ‘iZombie’, ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’, and ‘The Vampire Diaries’ among others.

Lead actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who play demon hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester in the series, seemed to have accepted the fact that their popular show must come to an end somehow. When asked about how they would like their duo to exit the series, they both had some ideas of their own.

Padalecki said, “It’s changed a lot over time. Part of me, loving Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, always thought it’d be great to see the boys against insurmountable odds and to freeze-frame on them and just hear stuff in the background. You don’t know if they die, you don’t know if they live, but you know that they’re going to go out in a blaze of glory.”

Ackles thought up a more melodramatic route saying that Dean may have to make the ultimate sacrifice for his brother. He said, “It’s either going to end tragic or it’s going to end not tragic, and I can kind of make an argument for both.”

In addition to big changes for the show, new showrunners Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb have also been confirmed after current showrunner Jeremy Carver departs to focus on another series, ‘Frequency’. According to Entertainment Weekly, both worked on the series for years – with Singer having been in the series from season 1 and Dabb since season 4.

Meanwhile, season 11 concluded with the 23rd episode entitled, “Alpha and Omega”. It premiered on May 25 with the synopsis, “God (guest star Rob Benedict) comes to a decision about Amara (guest star Emily Swallows) that has direct repercussions for Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles).”

‘Supernatural’ is an American fantasy-horror television series created by Eric Kripke. It follows the adventures of two brothers as they hunt down supernatural entities such as demons and malevolent ghosts. Season 12 is slated to premiere sometime this fall although no official release date has been announced as of the present.
