With filming already completed in August, “The Punisher” Season 2 is returning to Netflix shortly but fans of the show may have to wait until early 2019 to see Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) in action.
With “Daredevil” season 3 scheduled to come out later this month, Netflix will likely have to push back the release date of “The Punisher” Season 2 to avoid crowding the airwaves with Marvel-related shows. The second seasons of “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist” have already premiered this year, and with the third season of “Daredevil” coming out as well, Netflix will already have four Marvel shows return in one year. That’s quite a lot.
“Season 2 is in post-production as of now. Therefore one might see The Punisher out by early 2019. Netflix hasn’t mentioned a specific release date for the show, but we know that it should be out with a specific date anytime in the month of January or so,” Anhaar Ahmed said in his report for OtakuKart
Meanwhile, “The Punisher” Season 2 should cover the transformation of Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) into the villain Jigsaw after his fight with the Punisher last season. Aside from Bernthal and Barnes, Amber Rose Revah, Jason R. Moore, Josh Stewart, Floriana Lima, Giorgia Whigham, and Corbin Bernsen are also returning to play Dinah Madani, Curtis Hoyle, John Pilgrim, Krista Dumont, Amy Bendix, and Anderson Schultz, respectively.
Unlike the previous season, “The Punisher” Season 2 will have 13 episodes as showrunner Steve Lightfoot explains that he prefers the new format.
“I always wanted it to be a slow burn show,” Lightfoot said in an interview with Collider earlier this year. “I always felt like we had the right amount for 13, and you’ve gotta have enough story for that but I like how slow burn and character-driven the shows are.”
