‘The Winds of Winter’ News & Update: George RR Martin Not Done Writing, Admits He's Slow, Wants ‘Game of Thrones’ to Continue

George RR Martin

“The Winds of Winter” author George RR Martin admitted that he is not done writing his novel yet. He admitted that he could have completed the book a long time ago but he was not able to do so because he is sluggish.

George RR Martin made the confession to The Hollywood Reporter this week. "I wish I'd been done four years ago, but I'm slow," he told the magazine.

Then again, it seems he is trying to make it up and is now focused on writing as millions of fans are waiting for the sixth chapter in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series. In fact, he said that he even skipped his set visit to the final season of “Game of Thrones” as he is still working on “The Winds of Winter.”

“Going to set is a lot of fun but there’s nothing for me to do there, so I thought I better stay home and not go to Croatia; or Spain; or Belfast, Ireland,” Martin said. “I still have two books to write.”

Moreover, George RR Martin assured fans he is steadily working on the “The Winds of Winter” now. He added that the new book is “very complex” and fans can assume that this info is a bit of a teaser for “TWOW.”

When asked about how he is going with the book, he replied, “I'm working on ‘The Winds of Winter’ and the book is very complex, although there are a lot of great distractions out there."

Meanwhile, Variety reported that George RR Martin is actually against the end of “Game of Thrones,” the TV adaptation of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy book series. As everyone already knows, the upcoming eighth season of the show is going to be the series’s finale.

At the Primetime Emmys red carpet that took place on Sept. 17, George RR Martin said that he would want the fantasy drama to continue for a few years more if he had a choice.

“We could’ve gone 11, 12, 13 seasons,” “The Winds of Winter” author told Variety. He added that the decision was really up to “GoT” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

“There was a period like five years ago when they were saying seven seasons and I was saying 10 seasons and they won, they’re the ones actually working on it,” he said.
