U.S. President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk were seen together on Sunday at a memorial event for slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, drawing massive attention online. Their appearance comes months after a highly publicized feud, sparking speculation that the two may be reconciling.
The White House’s official X account shared photos of Trump with Musk, captioned “POTUS x @ElonMusk.” Musk reposted the image and also uploaded his own photo alongside Trump. Videos circulating on social media showed the two sitting side by side, engaged in conversation. Reports said the memorial drew more than 90,000 attendees and included Trump’s entire cabinet.
Tensions between Trump and Musk escalated earlier this year after Musk criticized Trump’s “big beautiful bill,” which ended lucrative tax credits for electric vehicles— a major revenue stream for Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA). Musk resigned from his role leading the Department of Government Efficiency under Trump, later accusing the president of ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. He even launched his own political party, though progress appeared limited.
Trump retaliated with harsh criticism, threatening to cancel government contracts for Musk’s companies, particularly SpaceX. At one point, Trump even suggested the possibility of deporting Musk. The fallout marked one of the most bitter clashes between the tech mogul and the president.
Now, their public interaction at Kirk’s memorial has fueled speculation of a thaw in relations. A reconciliation could potentially reopen the door for Musk to gain favorable treatment from the administration, including regulatory relief and expanded federal contracts. It remains unclear if Sunday’s memorial marked the first time Trump and Musk had met since their dramatic split, but the encounter has already reignited debate over their political and business ties.
