Dublin, Oct. 27, 2016 -- Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Fish Oil Products Market in the US 2016-2020" report to their offering.
The fish oil products market in the US to grow at a CAGR of 5.89% during the period 2016-2020.
The report covers the present scenario and the growth prospects of the fish oil products market in the US for 2016-2020. To calculate the market size, the report considers the revenue generated through the sales of fish oil products in aquaculture and through direct human consumption (DHC). The report also includes a discussion of the key vendors operating in this market.
According to the report, EPA and DHA are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids that are vital to the functioning of most organ systems of the human body. These polyunsaturated fats help maintain cardiac health, brain and eye functioning, immune system, and others. Fish oil contains more than 60% combined concentration of EPA and DHA.
These long-chain omega-3 fatty acids are far more potent than short-chain fatty acids like alpha linoleic acid (ALA) found in plant sources like flax seeds. This has resulted in a surge in demand for EPA and DHA and products containing them. Higher concentrations enable smaller and more palatable dosage forms. This makes fish oil sources more lucrative for use in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries, as smaller quantities of fish oil in products or supplements will provide the required nutritive value in a single-serve dosage form.
The pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries have harnessed this attribute of fish oil, particularly in formulating supplements for pregnant women and young children.
Further, the report states that the aquatic environment presents a unique set of challenges, vastly different from those in a terrestrial environment. Animal waste is more mobile in an aquatic environment and this can lead to pollution from open water fish farms. Fish waste does not contain human microbial pathogens. This is the fundamental difference between aquaculture farms and terrestrial livestock farms. This entails different policies for waste treatment and management.
