I completed my PhD in the Cambridge Geography Department in 1998, and moved to lecture Geography at Sheffield Hallam in 1999. From 2004 onwards I joined the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the University of Sheffield. I work mainly on urban change in the global South and recently completed a substantial ESRC project on living on the peripheries of African cities.
