The 89th Academy Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday, with the film “La La Land” leading the nominations at 14, the New York Times reported. Actors Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were also nominated for Best Actress and Best Actor for their role as star-crossed lovers in the critically-acclaimed film.
Stone has since released a statement about the nod. ABC News quoted the actress, who first garnered attention by playing roles in “Superbad,” and “Easy A,” said, "What a morning. I am so grateful for this honor and I'm so happy to share this feeling with my 'La La Land' family. The greatest part of life is connecting with people, and I love the deeply talented, kind and passionate people I was lucky enough to work with on this movie. I'm also overjoyed that the movie has connected with audiences in the way it has, and that it's hopefully bringing a kick in their step to those who watch it. This is beyond any of our wildest imaginings and we can't wait to celebrate together."
Gosling has yet to comment about his Oscar win.
Meanwhile, analysts at tv and movie awards prediction site Gold Derby said while “La La Land” could potentially run away with the Oscar at the categories it has garnered nods in, this may not be the same for the Best Actor category. While Gosling has a 5/1 chance in winning Best Actor, Casey Affleck’s odds were higher at 7/4 for “Manchester by the Sea.” Longtime film critic and The New York Observer Thelma Adams also arrived at a similar conclusion, who said that the only actor capable of upsetting Affleck in the category is Denzel Washington, who gave a stellar performance in “Fences.”
