In economics and investment, we're always looking for the next big thing. While nobody knows exactly how markets are going to go or which businesses are going to become huge, there tends to be a fair amount of chat around a few different industries these days. In this article, we're going to look at which industries might become the next big thing. Some of these have already started getting notice, while others might be a bit more obscure. Whether you're looking for somewhere to invest or just want to know a bit about where big business is heading, this article might be for you.
1. Online gambling
This industry has already seen massive growth over the last two decades. However, the online poker ban in the United States over a decade ago had a massive impact on the industry and saw stock prices plummet. Things are slowly changing for the landscape of North American online gamblers. You might find a few more people looking for roulette tips as restrictions are beginning to be loosened thanks to recent legislation.
Online gambling has made big strides elsewhere in the world, particularly the UK where it has always been quite an open market. Now American states want some of that tax revenue, and American gamblers want the freedom to play online as they please. Previously, big casinos in America had lobbied to protect their interests and prevent competition with online ventures, but things are changing on this front.
2. Cloud computing
Cloud computing is another industry that has come a long way in the last few years, and this look set to continue. There are countless solutions for cloud computing and these could revolutionalize the way you work and enjoy yourself online.
3. Cryptocurrencies
If you haven't already seen the growth of BitCoin and other cryptocurrenices in recent years, where have you been? While you might have missed the chance to become a millionaire thanks to getting into BitCoin when it was tiny, there's still money to be made with the right investments---perhaps in one of the smaller coins. But remember, this is an extremely volatile market. Even if investing in actual currencies isn't for you, the blockchain technology many of these currencies are based on is making big waves in the a range of different industries as well.
4. Renewable energy
Eco and clean energy sources are big buzzwords these days, and this looks set to stay. With fossil fuels running out, people don't just want affordable ways to power their homes and vehicles, they want clean ones that are better for the environment. The eco tech landscape is massive and should continue to grow as people become more concerned about both climate change and the environment around them. It shouldn't be too long before every car sold is electric and our demand for traditional fuel sources drops dramatically.
5. Drones
Drones are another big industry that have sprung up out of nowhere, and should continue to grow. This tech is great for the construction and filming industries---and much more.
Which of these techs do you think will be here to stay in twenty years? What other industries are going to see big changes?
