14 ice cream brands in 9 states recalled due to Listeria contamination

The recall was initiated by Royal Ice Cream after FDA sampling revealed Listeria monocytogenes' presence on processing equipment.

Ice cream products distributed in retail stores in nine American states have been recalled due to potential Listeria contamination, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration.

The states involved were New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Louisiana, Florida, Texas, and New Hampshire.

The recall was initiated by Royal Ice Cream after FDA sampling revealed Listeria monocytogenes' presence on processing equipment. It has expanded its recall to include all products manufactured at the facility within expiry.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in the young, frail or the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Officials say all affected products will have the manufacturing plant number “CT121” or “CT#121”.

The affected brands were Royal Ice Cream, Batch brand, Ronny Brook Ice cream, New Orleans Ice cream, Maple Valley Ice Cream, Art Cream, Sweet Scoops Yogurt, Gelato Fiasco, Biggy Iggy’s Ice Cream Sandwiches, Munson Chip Wich Ice Cream sandwiches, Giffords Ice cream Sandwiches, Chewy Louie Ice Cream Sandwiches, Snow Wich Ice Cream Sandwich, and Newport Creamery.

So far, no illnesses have been reported related to the product. Those who have purchased the affected products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
