All Nippon Airways Co. offered couples the chance to tie the knot aboard one of its Boeing B-777 passenger jets grounded by the coronavirus pandemic at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.
Although it was announced that the service, launched in late May, will be available until June 13, ANA has stopped accepting reservations.
Nonetheless, the airline announced that it might offer onboard weddings again depending on the business environment.
Part of the package is live music, an inflight announcement by cabin crew to congratulate the newlyweds, and special lighting to project an image of the galaxy on the cabin's ceiling.
Up to 30 people can attend the ceremonies.
The onboard wedding costs ¥1.56 million. Combined with a party with food in the terminal building, the bill would reach ¥3 million.
The airline came up with the idea to pique the interest of couples who are refraining from holding wedding ceremonies to avoid crowding amid the pandemic, despite May and June being popular wedding months.
Weddings have also been impacted by the alcohol ban at party venues.
The first onboard wedding was held on May 23 on the business-class deck of the ANA aircraft for a Tokyo couple, with a pilot, flight attendants, and guests joining them celebrating their marriage.
