PEMBROKE, Bermuda, Dec. 13, 2016 -- AXIS Capital Holdings Limited (“AXIS Capital”) (NYSE:AXS) today announced that Conrad D. Brooks has been promoted to General Counsel, effective Jan. 1, 2017. Mr. Brooks, who advances from the position of Executive Vice President, Corporate General Counsel, will report directly to Albert Benchimol, President and CEO of AXIS Capital, and will be a member of the Company’s Executive Committee. In his new role, Mr. Brooks will have global oversight of legal, compliance and regulatory operations across all AXIS offices.

“Since joining AXIS a decade ago, Conrad has played a critical role in developing standards of operations for our global compliance and legal practices and, in doing so, has earned the respect and confidence of our Board of Directors and of our management team,” said Mr. Benchimol. “He brings to the General Counsel position an extensive understanding of our business, as well as deep expertise in the fields of corporate law, insurance regulation, compliance, underwriting support and litigation as it applies to global insurance and reinsurance. Mr. Brooks’ promotion follows the retirement of Richard T. Gieryn Jr., who had served as AXIS Capital’s General Counsel since April 2006. A valued member of the Company’s senior leadership team, Mr. Gieryn enjoyed a 35-year career in law that included 14 years at AXIS.

Before joining AXIS Capital in January 2007 as Corporate Counsel, Mr. Brooks was a partner at the law firm McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (now Dentons), where he was a member and practice team leader in the firm’s corporate and securities practice. Mr. Brooks holds a J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois. He also earned a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from Old Dominion University. Mr. Brooks also formerly served as an officer in the United States Navy.
