Acer Unveils New Gaming Laptops, Shows It’s Serious About Going Big

In order to prove that it’s ready to enter the arena of PC gaming’s big boys, Acer recently held an event for the sole purpose of unveiling its own take on gaming laptops. To say that its flagship unit is unusual would be an understatement as it features, among other things, a transparent, oversized touchpad. As for its performance, the laptop can certainly keep up with the giants in the current market. Unfortunately, it’s mind-blowingly expensive.

Called the Predator Titan 700, this nearly six-pound behemoth of a laptop is the crown jewel of Acer’s gaming lineup. Making up for the frankly hefty weight is the mechanical keyboard and a slew of PC gaming’s most coveted aspects, PC Mag reports.

Without a doubt, this bad boy comes with features that consumers won’t find in any standard MacBook notebook since its 0.74-inch frame can host several options of Intel’s 7th generation processors and Nvidia’s 10th Generation GeForce GPUs. It also comes with two NVMe PCIe SSds configured in RAID 0 format and a nice 15.6 display with full HD capabilities.

For the mechanical keyboard, players get the standard RGB backlights. There’s also a transparent window on the surface for viewing the internal mechanisms made of Gorilla Glass that functions as a touchpad. The unit comes with a cooling fan, assisted by five heat pipes, so overheating shouldn’t be too much of a problem for most gaming sessions.

Now, for the bad news. The Predator Titan 700 costs a whopping $2,999, PC World reports. That price tag makes it more expensive than the latest iteration of the Razer Blade, which was received with raving reviews by the gaming community, by $1,000.

Fortunately, the event also saw the reveal of the Predator Helios 300, which is significantly less expensive than the Titan at $1,399 but comes with similar specs. Gamers can look forward to the launch of this portable rig in July.
