Achievements, Trophies, Badges, Stamps, and Medals have become important features in video games these days because they allow players to feel a sense of accomplishment. Finally beating that unbeatable boss or performing an impossible feat tastes so much sweeter with proof to back it up. It would seem that Nintendo has finally understood this and working on its own achievement system for the Switch.
It might seem inconceivable that there is still a gaming company in the industry that still has not jumped on the Achievements bandwagon, but Nintendo likes to be apart from the pack. It’s the only publisher and hardware seller in the market that hasn’t mastered the online aspect of its products, after all. However, if a developer answer during a recent Reddit AMA is to be believed, this could soon change.
The developer is one of the people working on the indie game Lichtspeer. When asked if Nintendo would be offering any kind of rankings, the response was telling.
“Nintendo doesn't have an official support for Achievements and Leaderboards, like Sony or Microsoft but we know that they're working on it,” the developer said.
Of course, no confirmation from Nintendo has been released with regards to the developer’s revelations. Then again, this is typical of the company, to begin with.
The nature of secrecy surrounding the development of this system is further highlighted when a follow-up question to the developers asking if this was a secret or not was met with dismissal. From there, no other answers could be milked from the developers with regards to the rumored Nintendo Achievement system, Comicbook.com reports.
If this news does end up bearing fruit, however, it will only serve to heighten popularity of the Switch. The console is already highly sought after right now and Nintendo is already having trouble keeping up with the demand.
