Apple's upcoming AirTag, equipped with an upgraded chip and enhanced tracking, is expected to launch by mid-2025, as detailed by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. He also claimed that Apple will not update the Mac Studio and Mac Pro with next-generation high-end chips until mid-2025.
Apple’s Next-Gen AirTag with Enhanced Tracking Expected by Mid-2025
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's next-generation AirTag item tracker is expected to launch mid-2025.
In his weekly "Power On" newsletter, Gurman detailed Apple's work on the next-generation version of the AirTag, codenamed "B589." Apple is presently conducting manufacturing tests with partners in Asia, and the new item tracker is still timetabled to arrive around the middle of next year. The updated model will reportedly include an upgraded chip and improved location-tracking capabilities.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in October 2023 that mass manufacturing of the second-generation AirTag has been postponed from the fourth quarter of 2024 to sometime in 2025. He expects the new AirTag will integrate with Apple's Vision Pro headset but has not provided precise specifics. See our AirTag 2 guide for additional information.
Apple Delays Mac Studio and Mac Pro Upgrades Until Mid-2025
Apple will not update the Mac Studio and Mac Pro with next-generation high-end CPUs until the middle of 2025, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, as per MacRumors.
According to Gurman's "Power On" newsletter, Apple will not release new Mac Studio and Mac Pro models until mid-next year. Apple last updated the Mac Studio and Mac Pro with M2-series chips at WWDC in 2023, which means they might last approximately 24 months without an update, despite the iPad Pro already having the M4 chip.
All other Macs, with the exception of the MacBook Air, should have M4-series chips by the end of 2024, but Gurman does not expect any new models to be announced at WWDC in June, with the exception of recent mid-year Mac launches in 2022 and 2023.
