Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 04, 2016 -- Akoustis Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB: AKTS) (“Akoustis” or the “Company”), a manufacturer of innovative BulkONE™ bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile wireless, announced today that its Chief Materials Scientist, Shawn Gibb, will present measured technical data on Akoustis’ patented single crystal piezoelectric materials and resonator technology at the International Workshop on Nitride Semiconductors (IWN 2016) being held this week in Orlando, FL.
During the presentation entitled, “Single Crystal III-N Materials for Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonator Applications,” Mr. Gibb will be highlighting the Company’s single crystal piezoelectric materials technology, recent technical milestones, and their application to wide bandwidth, high-frequency RF filter applications for Mobile Communications. The oral presentation takes place Thursday, October 6th 2016 at 9:15AM EST, in session C0.4 called Electronic Devices IV: Quantum Devices and Sensors, in the Narcissus/Orange Blossom room, located at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista.
Jeff Shealy, CEO of Akoustis, commented, “Akoustis continues to innovate and benchmark its patented single crystal piezoelectric materials technology. We are pleased to share our technical capabilities with an international audience of peers and showcase our patented materials’ applicability to hi-band RF BAW filters.”
Akoustis is pioneering superior material science to address the market requirements for improved filters – targeting higher bandwidth, higher operating frequencies and higher output power as compared to conventional polycrystalline BAW technology deployed today. Superior performance is driven by the piezoelectric-crystal material and resonator-filter process technology. The piezoelectric constant and material composition drive electro-mechanical coupling to enable higher filter bandwidth. In the case of operating frequency, high sound velocity in high-purity piezoelectric materials allows signals to propagate faster in the RF filter. In terms of power handling, high-purity, single-crystal piezoelectric materials offer high-thermal conductivity along the path of heat flow, enabling the high-power handling capability of the RF filter.
About Akoustis
Akoustis™ (http://www.akoustis.com) is a high-tech RF filter solutions company that manufactures its unique, patent-pending BulkONE™ technology to produce single crystal bulk acoustic wave (BAW) RF filters for the mobile-wireless industry, which facilitate signal acquisition and accelerate band performance between the antenna and the back end of mobile devices. Its BulkONE™ technology will service the fast growing multi-billion dollar market of device OEMs, network providers, and consumers to diminish front end phone heat, battery drain and signal loss -- all considered to be directly related to current RF polycrystalline filter technologies’ limitations. Akoustis’ “asset-lite” business model is capital efficient, leveraging existing manufacturing infrastructure in the semiconductor industry. Akoustis™ is located in the Piedmont technology corridor between Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina.
About IWN 2016
The International Workshop on Nitride Semiconductors (IWN) is a premier biennial-held meeting covering all aspects of III-Nitride Semiconductor science, engineering and industry. Historically populated by nearly a thousand international participants, the meeting accommodates joint and multiple-parallel sessions spanning materials, optoelectronic and electronic devices, to include new advances and theory. Held in Orlando, Florida, at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, the 2016 meeting continues its traditional rotation between Asia, Europe and North America.
