First Customizable Retainers Designed to Help Preserve Beautiful Smiles After Deep Bite Correction with Invisalign Treatment
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 04, 2018 -- Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ALGN) today announced the commercial availability of Vivera Retainers with Precision Bite Ramps, the first retainers in the market that can be customized to provide additional support after deep bite correction. First introduced in 2014 with Invisalign G5 Innovations, Precision Bite Ramps are designed to disocclude the posterior teeth or “open the bite” for improved efficiency in deep bite Invisalign treatments. The prevalence of deep bite malocclusion is a very common orthodontic occurrence worldwide, and is especially high in North America and EMEA, presenting in 45%* of patients in those regions. To date, over 688,000* moderate or severe deep bite patients have been treated with Invisalign clear aligners, including over 185,000* teenagers. In addition, data from patients treated with the Invisalign system shows that doctors are correcting more severe deep bites with Invisalign G5 Precision Bite Ramps* than without.
“My first choice of retainers for orthodontic treatment are the clear Vivera retainers,” said Dr. Rob van den Berg, an Invisalign Platinum provider with orthodontic practices in San Ramon and Mountain View, California. “I’ve wanted Precision Bite Ramps to be integrated into Vivera retainers since Precision Bite Ramps were first introduced in 2014 as part of Invisalign G5 innovations. I have had great clinical success combining Precision Bite Ramps with Invisalign clear aligners for deep bite patients, while providing these patients with a better overall treatment experience at the same time. Now that I can select Precision Bite Ramps on both Invisalign clear aligners and Vivera retainers, I can provide both a great outcome for my patients with deep bite and an effective way to maintain their beautiful smile for years to come.”
Vivera retainers are an effective, aesthetic retention solution. Unlike other traditional clear retainers, Vivera retainers are made with the same state-of-the-art technology as Invisalign aligners, which employ 3-D digital imaging, proprietary clear thermoplastic material, and advanced fabrication technology to create a strong retainer with a precise, comfortable fit. Retainers must be strong enough to maintain tooth position and Align's lab tests show that Vivera's proprietary thermoplastic material is more than 30 percent stronger than other leading clear retainer materials. Align's research also demonstrates that many clear thermoplastic retainers begin to deform (warp or crack) after as little as two months of simulated daytime wear, impacting their ability to maintain teeth in their final retained position. Vivera retainers are less likely to crack or break* than other clear retainers made from other leading clear retainer materials. Vivera retainers are suitable for Invisalign and non-Invisalign patients, and can be made directly from a final Invisalign treatment stage or from a digital scan or dental impression (for non-Invisalign patients). Vivera retainers with Precision Bite Ramps are now available to Invisalign-trained providers in Asia Pacific and will be available in North America beginning April 9, 2018. Vivera retainers with Precision Bite Ramps will be available in EMEA in Q218 and in Latin America in Q418.
