One of the things that movie fans have likely appreciated in the first movie was the way the story had a satisfying ending that shows that part of Alita’s (Rosa Salazar) story has been completed. However, the movie was also written in a way that clearly showed fans there is so much more to explore about Alita’s past and future. It is possibly one of the reasons why many fans around the world are hopeful that “Alita: Battle Angel 2” would be produced.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ plot: What happens next to Alita
Most of the first movie revolved around Alita confronting her very much unknown past, along with searching for her purpose, especially after realizing that she is an expert in combat. Alita’s conflicts became more complicated when she fell in love with Hugo (Keean Johnson) and made it her goal to help him fulfill his dream of going to Zalem by becoming a Motorball champion. A string of deception mainly orchestrated by Nova (Edward Norton) led to Alita losing her friend, Dr. Chiren’s (Jennifer Connelly), and to the death of Hugo.
Instead of moping around, the end of the first movie showed Alita coping with the tragic losses by proceeding to fight in the Motorball. She appears to be on top of the tournament with an obvious determination of reaching Zalem to fight Nova. Since these are the scenes that movie fans were left with, it is safe to assume that the titular protagonist would be seen arriving in Zalem in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
It is also very likely for Norton to return in “Alita: Battle Angel 2” with more screentime now that tackling the rivalry between his character and Alita can no longer be delayed in the sequel. While it is easy to see where the sequel is going in terms of the plot, the unfortunate truth is that Disney has yet to confirm its production.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ release date: Will Disney order a sequel?
In an earlier interview with Slashfilm, Salazar confirmed that Disney has yet to greenlight the making of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” so its release date is still unknown. On the bright side, there is a growing demand for a sequel to be made.
Last week, the number of signatures in an online petition demanding the announcement of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” has surpassed the 88,000-mark. The signature count has since increased by the thousands and has reached more than 117,000 as of this writing.
