Fans are already calling out for the production of “Alita: Battle Angel 2” even if the movie was only launched in February. In fact, the followers of the film have set up a petition for the sequel to be made.
While the fans are demanding for “Alita: Battle Angel 2,” James Cameron and the movies’ director Robert Rodriguez revealed that they actually have plans for a follow-up. The latter even shared that a trilogy is even possible and they already have the materials for it.
The plans for the sequel
In the fans’ petition for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” to be made, it was also pointed out that the first movie’s ending actually set up the scene for the story to continue so Cameron and Rodriguez must work on it. They said that it is clear there are more stories to tell, and true enough, the executives confirmed that many things can still happen as Alita’s narrative is still long.
"Well, we obviously have a plan for that," Rodriguez said in an interview. “We think of something like Warcraft that was clearly set up with the intention to do sequels.”
Reason for delay
Cameron and Rodriguez confirmed their plans for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” but why it is not in production yet? While it was mentioned that the former already sent the materials to Rodriguez so they can work on the sequel, the works have not officially started yet, and this is mostly due to the fact that Cameron is still busy filming the “Avatar” movie sequels 3 and 4.
There are lots of things to do and polish before the movie can go into full production. The storyline must be clearly defined first. Rodrigue previously revealed that there are about a thousand pages to read and review to put together the plot for “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
In any case, while the fans wait for “Alita: Battle Angel 2,” they can rewatch the original movie again through 3D Blu-ray, 4K HDR, and Digital format. The physical copies would be available starting July 23 while the digital version is already available for purchase in Amazon Video and iTunes.
