“Altered Carbon” season 2 is happening, but Takeshi Kovacs' stack will be in a new sleeve played by Anthony Mackie. If the second installment follows the main storyline of the sequel novel, Mackie’s Kovacs might become a mercenary tasked to find a Martian artifact.
The series is based on the same title novel written by Richard K. Morgan. Fans said that TV series adaptation, created by Laeta Kalogridis, went through significant changes while having the same basic premise as the book. In this case, there is a chance that “Altered Carbon” season 2 would also follow the basic storyline in the sequel novel “Broken Angels.”
Plot details are still under wraps. However, Elite Daily pointed out that Colonel Ivan Carrera’s inclusion in the characters list for “Altered Carbon” season 2 (see video below) could mean the series will somehow follow the events in “Broken Angels.” Carrera is the leader of the mercenary group that Kovacs joined in the second novel.
In the second novel, the story picked up 30 years later with Kovacs serving in a mercenary organization. It would not be surprising if Mackie’s Kovacs will have the same background in “Altered Carbon” season 2. The group of mercs is paid by a corporation to neutralize a rebellion in another planet called Sanction IV.
“Altered Carbon” season 2 could focus on Kovacs’ mission to find a Martian artifact. It is believed to activate a portal that will lead to an outer space location where a Martian starship is hidden.
The first season already nailed the dystopian and cyberpunk theme of the series. If “Altered Carbon” season 2 will, at least, adopt the basic storyline of “Broken Angels” then fans can expect an out-of-this-world (literally) setting in the upcoming episodes.
Filming of “Altered Carbon” season 2 is slated to end in June. This means new episodes could premiere on Netflix between late 2019 and early 2020.
