Takeshi Kovacs may be having a new sleeve, played by Anthony Mackie, in “Altered Carbon” season 2, but one of his ultimate goals remains. As he embarks on a new job, he will pursue locating his love interest, Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry), in the hopes that they can be together again?
One of the good things about this franchise is that a character cannot really die in a conventional way, thanks to the existence of the cortical stacks where one’s consciousness can be stored. The person can then be revived by placing the stack to a new host body called a sleeve. For example, “Altered Carbon” season 2 will introduce Kovacs in a new sleeve portrayed by the Marvel Cinematic Universe actor. However, it is unclear what awaits for the consciousness of Quell.
When the story of the first season started, Quell’s sleeve played by Goldsberry was already killed in a prior mission. She only appeared through flashback scenes establishing Kovacs’ “the one that got away” romance arc. The main protagonists later learned that Quell’s consciousness was backed up and “Altered Carbon” season 2 will pick up from Kovacs’ renewed motivation to find Quell.
Quell can still be revived and be reunited with Kovacs, but only through a new sleeve. However, the cast announcement trailer for “Altered Carbon” season 2 confirms that Goldsberry will reprise her role from season 1. Added to that, the character description for Quell in season 2 also hints at seeing her living in the present timeline. This offers a bigger possibility for her and Kovacs to be with each other again. Meanwhile, fans will have to wait to figure out whether a new Quell sleeve will be later introduced.
Kovacs will not only have a new sleeve in “Altered Carbon” season 2, but he is also going to join a new organization. The Netflix series is likely following the major plot of the second book, “Broken Angels,” of the Richard K. Morgan saga where the show is based. In it, Kovacs became part of a mercenary organization tasked to locate a Martian artifact. The show is expected to return on Netflix later this year.
