Netflix and anyone attached to the making of “Altered Carbon” season 2 has been very quiet about the time frame of the show’s production and its possible release date. However, there were earlier reports that principal filming shall commence this week.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the production of “Altered Carbon” season 2 officially began on Feb. 5. It is slated to end on Tuesday, and no reports were released to suggest that there was any significant delay in the filming of the series. So fans are likely going to assume that the said schedule was followed and the filming has wrapped up this week.
The filming period for “Altered Carbon” season 2 appears to be much shorter than the reported production duration of season 1. The first installment reportedly commenced in November 2016 through June 2017. That was roughly eight months or four months longer than the filming of the second season. It is interesting because the next series installment is expected to have the same number of episodes.
There is no official indication that the time it takes to complete the post-production of “Altered Carbon” season 2 will also be cut in half. But if it would be, then that means the series could return on Netflix this year. If it would also take eight months from the time of the filming’s end to the release date, the second season might be released in early 2020 — around two years since the pilot season came out.
The production time frame is not the only major change for “Altered Carbon” season 2. As soon as the second season was announced, it was also confirmed that Joel Kinnaman is leaving the show as Takeshi Kovacs takes on a new sleeve to be portrayed by Anthony Mackie. But a couple of familiar faces are coming back suggesting that Kovacs is going to face a split between an entirely new life and the important remnants of his past.
