Amazon Inc. announced the launch of its new online health clinic, which will be made available across the United States. The e-commerce giant aims to provide virtual healthcare service to people wherever they are through its website and official mobile app.
Amazon unveiled its new service, which it simply named “Amazon Clinic,” on Tuesday, Aug. 1. It said that the online-based clinic is accessible nationwide, and people can visit it any time to get help, advice, or treatment for migraine, flu, acne, and other common health conditions.
As per CNBC, while Amazon set up this virtual clinic, the company is not the one that will provide the telemedicine services. Instead, the company teamed up with several medical and health professionals who will manage the platform and attend to the patients. Currently, some of the partners that are already on board the Amazon Clinic are Curai Health, SteadyMD, Hello Alpha, and Wheel.
Patients who would like to make consultations can log on to Amazon Clinic, which will be open to users in all of the U.S. 50 states and Washington, D.C. People may consult with doctors through video call setup. The company said there is also a chat-based consultation, but because of some regulatory issues, this feature is only available in 32 states.
“Today, we are excited to announce that Amazon Clinic is now available to customers in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., offering more people easy access to licensed clinicians for virtual care,” Amazon Clinic’s chief medical officer and general manager, Dr. Nworah Ayogu, said in a statement on Tuesday. “In addition to message-based consultations in 34 states, Amazon Clinic now supports video visits nationwide. Amazon Clinic offers customers 24/7 access to clinicians directly through Amazon.com and the Amazon mobile app.”
Lastly, she shared that Amazon created the virtual clinic because “we want to make it dramatically easier for people to get and stay healthy, and we’re doing that by helping customers get the care and medications they need in the way that is most convenient for them.”
