Amazon, Netflix And HBO Join Forces For Ultimate TV Viewing Experience

Amazon is adding both Netflix and HBO Go to its Fire TV and Fire Stick search features, which makes it easier for customers to find shows that are exclusive to those networks on one platform. Amazon is planning to add more of these services in the future, however, such as HBO Now.

As Digital Trends points out, the three companies are in open competition with each other over TV programs. Each has their own offering by dabbling in both small screen series and movies, but they do often have to cooperate when it comes to the hardware side of things. As a result, Amazon featuring Netflix and HBO Go in the search function of its Fire TV offering is something of a compromise.

In any event, the ones who are the true winners in this development are the customers, many of whom are a bit put off by the fact that they have to go through a lot of hassle when they want to watch shows from multiple networks. This is something that Amazon Fire TV President Marc Whitten clearly understands.

“Customers have told us they love having access to the wide selection of apps, games, and Alexa skills on Amazon Fire TV, and they love how easy it is to find their favorite shows with universal voice search,” Whitten said. “Now, we’re making it easier than ever for customers to find their favorite content with universal voice search across 75 apps and channels, and a new, simple way to see recommendations from Netflix, HBO Go, and HBO Now right on the home screen.”

Perhaps this willingness to compromise in terms of availability has contributed to the Fire TV’s spot as the number one TV streaming option in the U.S. or so Amazon claims, Venture Beat reports. In any case, the service now offers 75 apps for users to choose from when they want to stream shows.
