Less than two months away from its television premiere, Starz released a barrage of images and videos to promote its highly-anticipated show, “American Gods.”
For the uninitiated, “American Gods” is based off from the bestselling book by Neil Gaiman about gods and mythological creatures coexisting with mankind. Conflict arises when New Gods arise.
Published via USA Today, the images, Empire reports, appear to be stills from the series. Ian McShane, who plays Mr. Wednesday, is shown with Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, during a drive. McShane’s character is also seen interacting with Zorya Vechernyaya, who is played by Cloris Leachman, a close relative of the Slavic god of darkness. Laura (Emily Browning) is also featured alongside her husband, with her eventual death an important element in the show’s storyline.
The show’s official Instagram account also teases a lot of secrets as well. Lauren Sarner for Inverse writes:
“Although they’re (videos) short, they offer clues about the characters’ truest natures. The story revolves around Shadow, an ex-con. Upon his release from prison, he learns that his wife has died and takes a road trip with an enigmatic grifter named Wednesday. As the story proceeds, it becomes clear that Wednesday is no ordinary man but the Nordic god Odin, and that a war is brewing between old gods from folklore and new gods like technology and media.”
Meanwhile, Gaiman, along with Executive Producer Bryan Fuller will host a sneak peek event at Bard College on April 15 at 7:30 PM. The event includes an exclusive preview of the first episode of the Starz series, which will surely delight book fans who’d want an exclusive look at the series before its television debut. Gaiman and Fuller will discuss their collaboration after the first episode screening and are expected to take questions from the audience, Poughkeepsie Journal said.
