Apple Inc. tapped The Walt Disney Company for a partnership deal as it launches its Vision Pro AR headset. The tech firm will integrate the mass media company's streaming service, Disney Plus, into its new augmented reality headset.
CNBC reported that Apple's Vision Pro AR headset will let users interact easily with any digital content in a mixed-reality setup. The Cupertino, California-headquartered iPhone maker is selling the new device for $3,499 and will initially be available in the United States only.
The release date in the U.S. is within the first quarter of 2024, and later, the company plans to bring the Apple Vision PRO AR to other countries as well. In any case, with regard to the partnership with Apple, Disney's chief, Bob Iger, said the augmented reality device will surely enrich the Disney+ streaming viewing experience. He further confirmed that once the new cutting-edge headset is released next year, users will have instant access to Disney's streaming service.
"We are constantly in search of new ways to entertain, inform and inspire our fans by combining extraordinary creativity with groundbreaking technology to create truly remarkable experiences," the Disney CEO said during Apple's WWDC 2023 event earlier this week. "And we believe Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary platform that can make our vision a reality."
Iger added, "It will allow us to create deeply personal experiences that bring our fans closer to the characters they love. This platform will allow us to bring Disney to our fans in ways that were previously impossible."
Meanwhile, Reuters pointed out that Apple is selling its Vision Pro AR headset at a steep price which is almost triple of Meta Platform's similar device. Its Meta Quest Pro is being sold for $1,499.99 only.
With the price of Apple Vision Pro AR, analysts expect the headset to have premium features such as a high-quality display and a hand-tracking function to allow controlling without the need for an external controller.
