According to “people familiar with the matter,” Apple is currently developing not one, not two, but three iPhone models to be launched in the fall of this year. Telling Bloomberg, the sources said the iPhones include the upgraded versions of the current iPhone models, and a mysterious “top-of-the-line” mobile phone bearing a new design. They also said the iPhones will most likely bear a new type of display screen, curved glass, stainless steel materials, and advanced cameras, of which the company is currently testing now.
The same sources said that the “top-of-the-line” mobile phone might be shipped much later - of up to two months- due to “supply constraints” no doubt because of the new redesign and features. On the other hand, the design is said to be more subtle than what Samsung did with their Galaxy S8, just running slightly over the phone’s edge and into the phone’s new steel frame.
Andrew Cunningham for Ars Technica noted that although there is excitement towards the upcoming iPhones, the report should be taken with a grain of salt. He wrote, “Other than this basic information, the report is heavy on guesses about what Apple could do with the redesigned iPhone while offering little concrete information on what it will do, which isn't totally surprising five months out from its September-ish reveal (the iPhone is currently the only one of Apple's products still updated on a predictable yearly cadence).”
“And while the "three iPhone" strategy has been reported before by less reliable analysts and rumor sites, it does seem like an odd way for Apple to mix up its strategy,” he added.
