BYD is joining forces with Huawei to equip the highly anticipated Leopard 8 with advanced smart driving technology, promising to elevate the off-road driving experience like never before.
BYD Leopard 8 to Feature Huawei’s Smart Driving Tech
According to a recent rumor, BYD's next off-road vehicle, the "Leopard 8," will most likely use smart car driving solutions developed by Huawei. If BYD were to choose the Chinese tech giant's solutions to improve the efficiency of its smart cars, it would be a first.
The future electric vehicles from BYD were unveiled during the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. The firm will release three new off-road vehicles and a single sports car. All three will make use of cutting-edge digital solutions and might cost around 500,000 yuan.
Leopard 8 Launch Expected Later This Year
Now, new information has emerged about the Leopard 8, an off-road vehicle manufactured by BYD, which will be equipped with smart car driving solutions developed by Huawei. Launch of the vehicle is anticipated during the latter half of the current calendar year. However, the specifics of the release remain undisclosed.
Off-road vehicles are adventure vehicles that are capable of traversing rough terrain with ease. For example, paths through woods, beaches, sand, and other terrain with poor traction.
The BYD Leopard 8 is now undergoing road testing. The EV may have the Huawei LiDAR technology, which isn't available in the Leopard 5, according to one of these tests. Urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) will also be available on this first BYD electric vehicle, HuaweiCentral shares.
BYD Shifts from Startups to Huawei for Driving Solutions
Horizon, Momenta, DJI, and other startups were BYD's go-to sources for automotive tech before Huawei. However, this time around, the business plans to create its own driving solutions. To achieve its new objectives, it even assembled a sizable team. Maybe Huawei may be of tremendous assistance to the company in this regard.
Among BYD's many brands, Leopard stands out. Xiong Tianbo, general manager of the Fangchengbao Division, recently stated at a meeting that Leopard 8 will provide new intelligent driving features that will astonish everyone. In this segment, he may be discussing Huawei solutions.
