Barcelona's 2024/25 kit release has been delayed due to a Nike error with the Spotify logo. President Joan Laporta has issued a warning to Nike as the kit dispute continues.
Nike Delays Barcelona Kit Release Due to Outdated Spotify Logo, New Kits Expected by July
Spotify will serve as Barcelona's primary shirt sponsor, while Nike will continue manufacturing their uniforms for the forthcoming season.
However, according to Relevo's reports (via Football España), there has been a significant issue with the new update, resulting in the original date being set back.
According to the report, Nike manufactured the uniforms for the release; however, they were adorned with the outdated Spotify logo, which was used during the 2023/24 campaign.
As of 2024/25, Spotify has modified its corporate logo. The streaming platform has requested that the kits be updated to reflect the change.
Nike will commission new kits for the release, and it is anticipated that their public circulation for Barcelona supporters will be postponed until July to accommodate a club photo shoot.
If Nike meets the anticipated new deadline in the upcoming weeks, Barcelona will don the new kit during their preseason tour of the United States.
Barcelona President Laporta Warns Nike, Considers Switching to Puma Amid Uniform Dispute
Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, has issued a warning to Nike over the ongoing dispute over the sportswear company's uniform.
According to reports, the Catalans are contemplating terminating their contract with Nike and potentially transitioning to Puma or even producing their jerseys with the assistance of Hummel.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Laporta updated the situation and maintained that he was merely striving to fulfill the club's best interests.
“Sometimes the easy thing is not the best. And now what we want is the best for Barça,” said Laporta. “The market is telling us that Barça is worth more than what we have in the contract with Nike.”
“There have been 27 years with Nike, we have had periodic meetings, we are having meetings, they have made an effort that I have greatly appreciated but that is not enough.”
“Now that we are in the economic recovery process, what we cannot do is go down, Barça must have the best contract on the market, but the best is the best contract on the market, as I did in my first stage."
“The contract we currently have is not the best on the market and Barça is the club that sells the most shirts in the world. You must have the best contract on the market and if not, fortunately we have other options.”
Barcelona's agreement with Nike expires in 2028; however, it is becoming increasingly probable that the club may terminate the contract prematurely and accept a more advantageous offer from Puma.
