‘Better Call Saul’ season 3 is set to feature the transformation of Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill into the titular Saul Goodman. It was speculated that Giancarlo Esposito’s drug kingpin Gus Fring will be to blame for transformation.
The upcoming season of AMC’s award-winning crime drama-black comedy television series intended as a prequel spin-off to the highly popular ‘Breaking Bad’ series is set to premiere on April 2017. It will feature the return of Bob Odenkirik as Jimmy McGill, a former scam artist and lawyer who becomes closely involved with the criminal underworld.
Jimmy was created by ‘Breaking Bad’ creator Vince Gilligan and writer Peter Gould and was first introduced as a criminal lawyer. He acted as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman’s lawyer and accomplice. The spin-off series focused on his transformation into his other persona Saul Goodman.
According to We Got This Covered, Odenkirk revealed that season 3 will feature Saul Goodman finally in action. He teased, “For the first time, we get to see Saul Goodman. But not the way you think. You’ll get to see Saul Goodman, but he is not what you saw in Breaking Bad. That character will appear but in a slightly different form than you’ve seen it.”
Saul Goodman is a made-up trade name based on the expression, "'S'all good, man!" Jimmy advertised his services on low-budget television commercials and print advertisements in Albuquerque with the tagline “Better Call Saul!”
According to The Independent, Giancarlo Esposito will also be featured as notorious drug kingpin Gustavo Fring in season 3. When asked what role Esposito’s character played in the upcoming storyline, Odenkirk teased, “Not only is Gus back, but there is a story with him… We get to know more about his empire building, more about Gus’ empire and how he built it.”
Odenkirk added, “He doesn’t just pass through, he’s not just an extraneous character to Saul’s story.” It was speculated that Gus’ appearance will be the reason Jimmy decides to go full-on Saul Goodman.
‘Better Call Saul’ season 3 is expected to return on AMC on April 10, 2017.
