“Better Call Saul” Season 5 won’t be coming out this year, and it appears that the showrunners are setting up the ending of the series. Series co-creator Peter Gould previously said that they’re planning on having the show have similar episode count as “Breaking Bad,” which had 62 episodes throughout its five-year run.
The premiere of “Better Call Saul” Season 5 will be the series’ 40th episode. The reason why the showrunners may be looking to end the show despite its popularity is due to the story itself.
With “Breaking Bad” already showing the fate of most characters in the spin-off series, there’s really no reason for Jimmy’s (Bob Odenkirk) story to be extended. However, Giancarlo Esposito – the actor playing Gus Fring – said that “Better Call Saul” Season 5 might not be the end, THR reported.
Esposito said that while “Breaking Bad” is billed as a show that only has five seasons, it was actually six since the fifth entry was split in two, with the second one arriving a full year after the first half aired. Thus, “Better Call Saul” Season 5 could be the installment that will setup the inevitable meeting between Jimmy and Walter White (Bryan Cranston).
Cranston and Aaron Paul’s appearance on the show has yet to be revealed, and we may be looking at season six where the meth-brewing duo will finally crossover to the spin-off series. “Better Call Saul” Season 5 will be heavily focusing on Jimmy taking on the persona of Saul Goodman as has been hinted when the conman managed to convince the panel to give him another shot.
It’ll also highlight the growing rift between Jimmy and Kim (Rhea Seehorn), with the fate of the latter still up in the air. Some fans have been fearing what “Better Call Saul” Season 5 has in store for Kim given that she isn’t present throughout the plot of “Breaking Bad.”
Is she going to die? Is she going to be incarcerated? Or is she going to do the best thing for her and finally cut ties with Jimmy, the conniving lawyer? Hopefully, it’s the last one as Kim doesn’t deserve all the hardships she’s been enduring in the manipulative hands of Jimmy. As for when “Better Call Saul” Season 5 will return, AMC has yet to announce anything. But we may be looking at an early 2020 release date, perhaps on the first or second quarter of next year, CheatSheet reported.
