“Better Call Saul” season 5 is coming, but sadly, it was reportedly confirmed to be the penultimate installment. This means that the “Breaking Bad” spinoff is already ending with one more season to go, which is the sixth.
With this information, it is easy to see that the series is ending since Jimmy McGill is already transforming to his “Breaking Bad” persona as Saul Goodman. His transformation only means that with “Better Call Saul” season 5, it is fast catching up with the drama where it was based from.
The penultimate season and finale confirmation
As the timelines of “Breaking Bad” and “BCS” is close to meet at some point now, the end of Jimmy McGill’s story is obviously coming to a close. It was said that he would achieve his full transformation in “Better Call Saul” season 5, so no wonder that AMC already announced during the Television Critics’ Association (TCA) Press Tour in January that the series is ending.
The network stated that it had renewed the show for its sixth and final run. The finale will offer a total of 13 episodes, and the target release date is in 2021.
“From day one of ‘Better Call Saul,’ my dream was to tell the complete story of our complicated and compromised hero, Jimmy McGill,” Peter Gould, the showrunner and executive producer of the series, said via AMC’s press release. “We couldn’t be more grateful to the fans and critics who are making this journey possible. Next month we start work on the sixth and final season, and we’re going to do our damnedest to stick the landing.”
Sarah Barnett, AMC’s president of entertainment, further stated that ordering new episodes for “Better Call Saul” proved to be worthwhile because it has been most rewarding for everyone involved. “Greenlighting a prequel to one of the most iconic series in television history is one of the boldest swings that AMC has ever taken,” she said.
Plot summary and airdate of the penultimate season
Meanwhile, “Better Call Saul” season 5 will premiere with the “Magic Man” episode. As posted on Fandom page, its summary reads: “Now doing business as Saul Goodman, Jimmy unveils an unorthodox strategy for client development that tests Kim's tolerance of his new legal persona.”
“Better Call Saul” season 5 is set to return on Feb. 23 at 10 p.m. with episode 2 following on Feb. 24.
