“Black Mirror” Season 5 is set to be released tomorrow and fans can’t wait what series creator Charlie Brooker has come up this time around. The fifth season will be telling three different stories, half of what the third and fourth entry contained.
Their titles are “Smithereens,” “Striking Vipers,” and “Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too.” The first one will have Andrew Scott taking the spotlight where he’s playing Christopher, a troubled ride-share driver who will go through great lengths to get answers about a tragic incident. With “Black Mirror” Season 5 exploring the effects of technological advancement in our society, it’s likely that “Smithereens” will be featuring concerning issues regarding this topic, Express reported.
Meanwhile, “Striking Vipers” will be starring MCU star Anthony Mackie and is set to explore our technology’s impact on the romance and relationship in this day and age. The trailer for “Black Mirror” Season 5 hinted that Mackie’s character will be drawn to a series of events sparked by what appears to be lust and desire.
And lastly, “Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too” will have Miley Cyrus and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” actress Angourie Rice playing Ashley O and Rachel respectively. The story will be centered on Rachel’s desire to connect with her favorite pop icon whose glamorous life isn’t as gleaming as it appears. Going by these descriptions, it’s clear that Brooker has stepped away from his usual technological terror and has provided “Black Mirror” Season 5 with emotional consequences rooted on the increasingly disconnected environment caused by our species’ advancement.
With only having three episode count, the fifth installment will likely deliver a deeper message to its audience as Brooker isn’t pressured to handle several differing plotlines at once. Personally, I’m looking forward to “Smithereens” on account that Scott is headlining the episode, but I’m also curious to see how “Striking Vipers” and “Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too” will unfold.
