Marvel might want to be secretive about “Black Panther 2” to avoid spoiling what happens in “Avengers: Endgame.” But fans can have other ways to “confirm” if the sequel will be made such as contracts of actor Chadwick Boseman and director Ryan Coogler with Marvel.
Observer reported that Boseman is signed to appear in five Marvel films. So far, he has been part of “Captain America: Civil War,” “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame.” This almost confirms that the fifth movie Boseman has with Marvel Cinematic Universe would be “Black Panther 2.”
Meanwhile, sources of The Hollywood Reporter said in October 2018 that Coogler has “quietly” signed another deal with Marvel to helm “Black Panther 2.” The secrecy surrounding the sequel’s production is quite understandable given the events leading to “Avengers: Endgame.”
The suspense on whether or not there will be a “Black Panther 2” is further ignited by the fact that no official updates from Marvel have specifically indicated the sequel is happening. For example, in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sequels are usually confirmed right after the end of a movie through a title card that says, “[This character] will return.”
However, Marvel did not leave a generic “Black Panther will return” promise that commonly suggests there will be a standalone movie sequel. By the end of the first film, Marvel specifically promised that “Black Panther will return in ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’” He did, but Black Panther also belonged to the half of the universe that turned to dust.
“Avengers: Endgame” is opening in theaters worldwide this week. It marks the end of the current MCU era. Most fans are convinced there would be a way for the existing members of Avengers to bring back some (if not all) of the fallen heroes, hopefully, including the king of Wakanda. In this case, fans might be hearing more updates throughout the year such as the timeline of a new phase of MCU likely containing the release date window for “Black Panther 2.”
