The KeyONE is BlackBerry’s attempt at cashing in on the nostalgia that some smartphone users might have for the bygone days of cellular units with physical keypads. It has been available in the market as an unlocked offer for a while now, costing about $549. However, for customers who would like to get the phone through a carrier, Sprint is the first to take on the role and will be offering the phone starting tomorrow.
There are a few advantages to getting the KeyONE from a carrier that customers might like to take into consideration and which Sprint is counting on to attract interest. For one thing, it saves money upfront since they can just go with the installment system of the plans on offer, The Verge reports. There’s also the matter of providing support to BlackBerry by choosing Sprint since the carrier has always been a huge supporter of innovative products.
In any case, the KeyONE will be available at the carrier starting July 14th. Customers can gain access to the device via Sprint’s 18-month offer, which will cost users $22 a month. Overall, it would cost clients $396 to get the KeyONE, which is a huge saving when compared to buying the device unlocked.
With regards to the unit’s features, customers can expect a decent offering with the 4.5-inch display that has 1650 x 1080 resolution, Android Police reports. The processor is a Snapdragon 625 chip and has 3GB of RAM. The rear and front cameras are 12MP and 5MP respectively, while the battery is an impressive 3,505mAh.
All in all, the KeyONE is a decent offering that has an affordable price, made even more affordable when choosing to get it through Sprint. Only time will tell if the BlackBerry unit actually sticks and if the nostalgia that fans feel for the phone is worth anything.
