“The Boondocks” Season 5 is finally happening after the fourth installment ended on 2014. The source of the information is from John Witherspoon, the voice of Granddad Freeman, Source reported.
Witherspoon dropped the “The Boondocks” Season 5 confirmation when he sat down with Joe Rogan for an interview. Before the reveal, the discussion was centered around the fact that the 77-year-old got his success from simply being who he is.
“I’m on the cartoon—what is it? The Boondocks? I didn’t change my voice for The Boondocks. “And they coming back. The Boondocks is coming back … It’s one of the best cartoons I’ve ever been on,” Witherspoon said. While this may be good news for the fans of the adult animated sitcom, some are worried that “The Boondocks” Season 5 might not be able to stand toe to toe with its predecessor.
Specifically, the first three. It can be recalled that part of the reason why the fourth installment got massive negativity from fans and critics alike was due to the absence of creator Aaron McGruder. With McGruder still unconfirmed if he’s part of “The Boondocks” Season 5, some are worried that the storyline will suffer due to the lack of a guiding hand from the 45-year-old cartoonist.
And judging by how the creator and Sony parted ways, it’s understandable that fans are worried about the series going forward. It can be recalled that the reason why McGruder quit the show was due to Sony wanting him to create three episodes a week, which is too much for anyone. Witherspoon himself was also the source of this information when he sat down with journalist and radio personality Sway Calloway. Regarding other details of “The Boondocks” Season 5, nothing substantial has surfaced yet other than Witherspoon’s confirmation.
Hopefully, McGruder and Sony find a way to meet somewhere in the middle as the series needs to return what with the political and entertainment industry seeing multiple scandals over the years. “The Boondocks” Season 5 can even do a second part two of R. Kelly as the rapper has landed on hot water recently following multiple allegations from several women accusing him of abuse and sexual assault.
