“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 was saved by NBC following its cancellation by Fox. And as it moves to another home, it is sad that one of the main cast members will not come with the group to finish the season together.
On Oct. 3, Chelsea Peretti, who had been playing Gina Linetti since “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” debuted in September 2013, announced that she will be leaving the show. Via Twitter, she told fans that she will not be able to do a full season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 but did not mention the reason. She thanked fans for watching her as Gina.
After her announcement, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor confirmed Chelsea’s exit with a heartwarming message.
“From the moment Mike Schur and I decided to create this show, we want Chelsea Peretti to be part of it, and she always will be,” part of his post reads. “She has brought so much to her amazing, hilarious, unique portrayal of Gina Linetti which is not surprising since she is one of the funniest people in history.”
He added, “We have tried really hard to create a storyline for her departure that lives up to a character who can only be described as ‘The human embodiment of the 100 emoji.'”
But somehow, there is good news as Dan stated that despite her decision to leave, it does not mean that this will be the last time that fans will see Gina Linetti. Chelsea declared that there is still a chance that she may come back to the show in the future when she wrote in her post, “But that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back.”
Spoiler
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 will debut on NBC while continuing the story where it left off in the fifth installment. It will show who won the seat to be the new police commissioner.
Did Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) win? If he did, such a big promotion on his part will also mean big changes are about to come to the 99th precinct. Another scenario to expect is Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Detective Amy Santiago’s (Melissa Fumero) honeymoon as their wedding took place in the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 5 finale.
Air Date
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 6 has been extended from 13 episodes to 18, as per Deadline. However, its air date is still unknown as NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said that they have not scheduled its premiere yet.
