Proving once again that it is one of the best video game developers in the industry, CD Projekt Red celebrates the 10th anniversary of its Witcher franchise with a heart-warming trailer. The video, which features a gathering of many of The Witcher 3’s characters, is a moving rendition of the company’s gratitude towards its fans, delivered in one of the most touching scenes ever.
Set in the Corvo Bianco vineyard that players will get in the Blood and Wine expansion pack once they arrive in Toussaint, the video opens to Ciri arriving on horseback, bringing a bottle of wine. Cue Geralt’s familiar voice, ruminating about the amount of time he has spent in his own villa and what he has been up to since the end of the game.
At first, one could be forgiven for thinking that perhaps the White Wolf was simply reading a letter or talking to his friends, all of whom have gathered inside his cozy home. A few seconds into the video, however, after viewers were treated to the sight of characters whom they have grown to love, it’s revealed that Geralt was actually talking to those who have been with him through all three games.
Geralt ended his musings by saying “Thanks for everything, and know we all miss you, old friend” while making a toast and framed by the franchise’s most beloved figures, even Roach. It’s a heart-warming message by the developers to the fans who stuck with the company since the release of The Witcher back in 2007.
As PC Gamer notes, despite the happy atmosphere bursting with friendship and camaraderie depicted in the video, there is a palpable amount of sadness that comes from watching Geralt and his friends say goodbye. Many have been following the stories of these characters for over a decade and even then, letting go is proving impossible.
