It seems that they are saying that it was an effective strategy since the song became a hit after their “admission to dating.” Plus, their less passionate performance at last year’s American Music Awards further fueled the rumors that they are not dating for real but for business purposes only.

Glamour reported that some reporters and paparazzi got the chance to interview Shawn Mendes when he was at the Los Angeles Airport’s terminal. It was said that as the singer walked through the terminal, they asked him if his and Camila Cabello’s relationship is fake, and he gave a short but concise answer of "No, definitely not a publicity stunt."
