Canada has been caught in the middle of the rivalry between China and the U.S. Having been faced with the trial, set to determine whether the Huawei CFO Men Wanzu is to be extradited the country has now been hit with another challenge tied to Huawei and China.
The whole trade war and various negotiations fail come from the allegations against China, regarding its usage of Huawei technology to spy and gather information illegally from the U.S citizens.
An ongoing battle
While the Company is denying all the allegations, The U.S has refused to back down for more than two years now. This hostility took on a turn when China started rolling out 5G technology that would be a perfect weapon to use for spying and gathering of information something that China has already been accused of. So naturally, when China started offering these services to different countries there was a clear decision to be made. There are a plethora of benefits to using 5G, but the most important one is that it is around 100 times faster compared to 4G and the innovative technology would take away the majority of the limitations that current mobile data users use. This technology would allow access to streaming services, online games and similar activities that require a lot of speed and power and were previously mostly unavailable. Establishments online casino toronto would have access to a much bigger audience if the similar technology would be functioning in the country.5G is the technology that would really improve the lives of everyday people and in any other circumstances, most of the countries would even hesitate to take the leap.
But since the relationship between the U.S and China has been tainted by this controversy countries like Australia and New Zealand have refused to cooperate with China on this one and will be blocking it’s access to their territory. Meanwhile, Canada and the U.K seem to have a different approach. U.K already finalized its decision to allow partial coverage for the technology, meaning that Huawei’s 5G will only work in certain areas.

Canada’s decision
After that decision Canada has to reconsider its options, seeing that a decision like this was an option. There is some doubt about whether the U.S will be on board with this approach seeing that most industry experts have doubts about whether or not the half-way approach could actually work long term. And while the option seems like the most balanced way to deal with these situations it might not be as realistic as the U.K officials made it seem since this sort of a partnership with a telecommunication company hasn’t really been done before so it could end up being a major failure.
Canada does not want to completely rule out the possibility of having 5G technology but considering its close relationship with the U.S decision will be a tough one either way.
Canadian officials haven’t released an official statement yet but we should know within a week about what approach Canada is willing to take and what the international response will be.
