‘Captain Marvel’ is set to feature Brie Larson in the titular role and will make her standalone film debut in 2019. The actress shared a photograph of herself on social media preparing for the role with Kelly Sue DeConnick’s comic book.
According to Yahoo! Movies, Larson was seen preparing for her new role as Carol Danvers a.k.a. Ms. Marvel in a new photograph shared on Instagram. She was lying on a couch clad in what looked to be a superhero sweatshirt reading Kelly Sue DeConnick and David Lopez’s “Captain Marvel Vol. 8 #1 -Higher, Further, Faster, More. Part One" comic book. The post was captioned, “LARSON INDUSTRIES R&D DEPT.”
The photograph emerged just weeks after Marvel Studios’ head Kevin Feige officially introduced the actress as the newest addition to the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) cast during the studios’ panel at the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con.
DeConnick, known for keeping mum since the announcement of the live-action adaptation since 2014, admitted that she was careful about not endorsing anyone for the role during an interview with Vanity Fair. She explained, “I’m in a position where so many of the fans will look to me for a cue. I didn’t want anyone who was cast to feel unsupported or second choice.”
She said, “My dream casting—or the actor who is the voice in my head—is Kathleen Turner from about 1983. She could be both sexy and awkward and powerful. She could do all of those things at once.”
DeConnick added, “From what I can tell, Brie Larson can do those things too. She has a gravitas and she has a power to her. But you can see she also has a sense of humor and playfulness there. I’m psyched.”
The 46-year old comic book writer took on the ‘Captain Marvel’ job after Carol Danvers adopted the heroine’s identity and wrote for the series for three years from 2012 to 2015. She is widely considered as one of the catalysts for Carol Danvers’ massive popularity among Marvel’s fanbase.
‘Captain Marvel’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy is adapted for the big screen by writers Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. It is produced by Kevin Feige and is intended as the MCU’s first ever female-lead superhero film.
It is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the United States on March 8, 2019.
