Almost two years since its announcement in 2016 at the "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Anniversary of a Miracle” event, there is still no news about the release date of "Code Geass" season 3.
Sunrise, the Japanese animation studio behind “Code Geass,” has already released a promotional video for “Code Geass” season 3 and launched the three-part film series that was also announced at the same event that "Lelouch of the Resurrection" was announced.
The three-part film series is composed of “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion I - Initiation,” “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion II – Transgression,” and “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion III – Glorification.“ They are theatrical remakes of the original 2 seasons. They were created due to the long span of time since the first and second seasons aired. The films would help viewers keep up to date before the third season's release.
For much of the releases for Code Geass, the official 10th-anniversary website targetted a 2017 release for “Code Geass” season 3. This is unfortunately not the case, and even the three-part films that were supposed to lead up to season 3's release were delayed to 2018 releases.
The title of the third season has already been confirmed to be “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection.” Goro Taniguchi will return to helm the directing, and the previous cast will be reprising their roles.
Initial material on “Code Geass” season 3's plot has revealed that the season will be set a few years after the Zero Requiem event. The promotional video shows Lelouch very much alive even after dying in the last season due to his own orders. The third season's title may give us a clue regarding Lelouch's return, the manner of which we can only speculate on for now.
