Getting an iPhone is no cheap affair and having it repaired can be expensive as well. Thanks to an updated AppleCare+ extended warranty, however, at least broken screens will be cheaper to replace.
Apple still charges customers with $129 for the protection plan that it has, covering all devices except for the iPhone SE. That one only costs about $99, The Verge notes. However, the more interesting part is the fact that replacing a shattered or cracked screen now only costs $29.
Naturally, the cheaper price only applies when the broken screen is the only problem. This is a big reduction from the $99 that Apple previously asked for. It is a bit odd that the company didn’t make a big deal of the change, however, though that didn’t stop some from noticing it.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple is now charging customers with a flat rate of $99 for all incidental repairs under its AppleCare+ service. This applies to both current gen and previous gen devices. Before, owners of older iPhones would have had to pay only $79. It’s likely that the reason for the increased fee stems from the reduced screen repair or replacement charge.
In any case, this is still a boon for consumers since cracked, broken, or shattered screens are the most common problems that the AppleCare+ covers. By lowering the price for this particular issue, Apple is helping most consumers save.
On its website, Apple describes the updates made for its protection program accordingly: “Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a service fee of $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage, plus applicable tax.”
