As “Criminal Minds” Season 14 was able to secure a buzzer beater for its next installment, the cast and crew have begun production, picking up where it left off. Right now, its mother network has approved 15 episodes for this upcoming season, a new low for the police procedural drama.
It can be remembered that season 3 had the lowest episode count prior as it only had 20. So could this new low be a signal that “Criminal Minds” Season 14 is going to be the last season?
That’s still uncertain at the moment and showrunners have said that the episode count can still be extended depending on how production turns out. Indeed, the cast for the “Criminal Minds” Season 14 is shooting the series with this in mind. CBS entertainment president Kelly Kahl also confirmed that this is going to be the case.
“As scheduling evolves and we try to get more original episodes on air, we have to cut and paste and sometimes trimming episodes on some of those shows to get more originals on the air,” Kahl told Deadline regarding the status of “Criminal Minds” Season 14. “They possibly can get a couple of more episodes. It depends where they are in production, they will let us know when (we need to make that call).”
“Criminal Minds” Season 14 will also see a milestone for the police procedural as the next installment will have its 300th episode. So fans of the show can expect a lot of heart-pounding episodes and gripping plotlines this coming season.
“Criminal Minds” Season 14 has been scheduled to air on Sept. 26. And as the previous installment saw two major protagonists getting sidelined because of unfolding events, the showrunners are trying their best to resolve the conflict without losing any of the characters in the process.
