The premiere of “Criminal Minds” season 14 is not only the 300th episode of the entire franchise, it is also where other members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI are expected to rescue Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness). They have to quickly do their research on the mass murder-loving cult and find where the abducted agents were taken.
The police procedural series returns next month with an episode titled “300.” While the title is obviously a nod to the fact that it is the 300th episode of the franchise, there might also be a link between that number and the story that will unfold in the “Criminal Minds” season 14 opener.
It can be recalled that season 13 ended with another breathtaking cliffhanger which put Reid and Garcia in danger. They were abducted by a cult led by someone called The Messiah (Michael Hogan), who indoctrinates his followers and trains them to become serial killers. This is the lingering ordeal that the BAU has to face once “Criminal Minds” season 14 begins.
According to official teasers, Reid and Garcia were not randomly selected for the abduction. And the rest of the BAU will be figuring this out after tracing “surprising clues in their own history.” It is likely that the team will be rescuing Reid and Garcia in the “Criminal Minds” season 14 premiere or else these agents could be facing their demise.
There seems like a ton of information about the cult yet to be revealed in the “Criminal Minds” season 14 opener. But BAU has no time to waste. The teasers also mention a “Believers” prophecy that the cult is looking to fulfill in the 300th episode. By the looks of it, this so-called prophecy might likely explain why The Messiah targeted Reid and Garcia.
“Criminal Minds” season 14 has been moved to a new schedule and will only have 15 episodes; all previous seasons except season 3 had over 20 episodes. The series returns to CBS on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 10 p.m. ET.
