After a bit of waiting, “Criminal Minds” season 15 is finally confirmed to return. However, fans should focus on it because that will be the long-running police procedural drama’s farewell season. CBS canceled it already and this was announced in January.
The drama’s showrunner, Erica Messer, said that the cancellation was bittersweet but they will do their best to present a good ending to their well-loved show. She also revealed that being axed from the programming lineup is actually one of her greatest fears and it happened already.
“It’s really bittersweet, but I’m so, so grateful to CBS for giving us this heads-up,” she told TV Line. “I think one of my biggest fears was always, ‘Oh man, what if we don’t know’ and then they just don’t bring back the show? But they respect this series and the cast and the crew and the fans enough to end this properly.”
In any case, CBS did not state a reason as to why it canceled “Criminal Minds” season 16 but observers say that the network came to this decision because of the drama’s dropping viewership ratings. It was further said that although the show can still present interesting stories, the plots are too predictable now so there is “no-shock” factor anymore.
So, when will “Criminal Minds” season 15 premieres? Express reported that it may premiere in autumn or last quarter of this year. The final season will feature just 10 episodes so the series is ending with a total of 325 stories since season 1.
What to expect in “Criminal Minds” season 15? Well, Messer said that it will show the “emotional journey” of the team members and suggested that there will be a time jump. She said that it will pick up six months after season 14’s finale episode.
Finally, “Criminal Minds” season 15 is in production already and it will still feature the usual cast including Daniel Henney, Kirsten Vangsness, A.J. Cook, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Joe Mantegna. CBS has yet to announced its exact premiere date.
