People who dared to preorder the $2,000 worth of “Cyberpunk 2077”-themed Xbox One console are now getting rewarded. CD Projekt Red has started offering them a free copy of the game after confirming that listing the product on Microsoft’s store was a mistake.
Cyberpunk 2077: Who can get a free copy of the base game and the ‘first expansion’?
Video game fans are excited about “Cyberpunk 2077,” not just because of its gameplay and story. The cyberpunk theme has allowed CD Projekt Red to collaborate with hardware manufacturers, including Microsoft, to come up with products exclusively designed based on the upcoming RPG.
CD Projekt Red and Microsoft have a good thing going, and it was made clear when Xbox One became the first console to have a “Cyberpunk 2077” bundle offer. It was first listed on the Microsoft online store in May, but many were surprised when it came with a whopping price of $1,999.99. People immediately suspected it was a mistake, while some took the risk of ordering it before the error was confirmed.
Earlier this week, those who preordered the $2,000 “Cyberpunk 2077” bundle confirmed receiving a message through their Xbox Live accounts that Microsoft is canceling their preorders. In exchange, CD Projekt Red and the Xbox maker are giving them a free copy of the base game as well as its “first expansion.”
The limited-edition “Cyberpunk 2077” Xbox One bundle with the correct pricing (now sold out) became available online last month for $299. It included a 1TB Xbox One X, a copy of the base game, an Xbox Wireless Controller, and a free one-month Xbox Game Pass subscription.
‘Cyberpunk 2077’ gameplay: How many expansions should fans expect
Those who do not know, CD Projekt Red had previously confirmed that “Cyberpunk 2077” will have expansions. While talking to investors last April, CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński reportedly said (via VGC), to expect “no less DLC than ‘The Witcher 3’ had.” It can be recalled that “The Witcher 3” had two story expansions “Hearts of Stone” and “Blood and Wine” plus 16 DLC packs.
The latest ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ release date
“Cyberpunk 2077” has been a long time coming, but it appears that more fans are not bothered by its prolonged time in production. The game was initially planned to launch last April, then it was moved to September, until it was further delayed to the current release date of Nov. 19.
It might have also helped in keeping the fanbase calm when CD Projekt Red announced that “Cyberpunk 2077” upgrades to next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X would be free of charge. The RPG will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC/Mac as well as on Stadia at a later date.
